Those who share an interest in traditional folk music and playing music have a chance to also attend the Sommelo folk music camp this summer. The joyous children of the Sommelo folk music camp will once again invade the hallways and classrooms of the Kuhmo Arts Centre. You may spend the whole day long under the tuition of the nice teachers and leisure activities instructors. This summer there will also be instrument making sessions, and during the course of the music camp it will be possible to make your own Sommelo-instrument with professional assistance. Campers may also take part in a composing contest, the winner of which will be declared at the final concert of the camp. The teaching consists of studies on the main instrument and group playing. Furthermore, it is also possible to take lessons in a secondary instrument for a small extra charge.

The cost of the camp is 50 euro, which includes the lessons on the main instrument and group playing; the folk song workshop is on one of the camp days and the game and play workshop, led by the leisure activities instructors, is every day of the camp.
Lessons on the second instrument are 5 e per lesson.

The venue of the final concert on the 4th July at 5 p.m. is the Kelo Hall, near the Kalevala tourist village in Kuhmo. The concert programme consists of pieces, rehearsed during the group playing sessions and also small ensemble and solo performances.

Salla Seppä - kantele, singing, jouhikko, harmonium
Janne Seppänen - guitar, mandolin

The organisers will also try to arrange teaching of other instruments (for example accordion), according to the wishes of the participants. Please let us know about your wishes on the instrument in good time, and we shall find you a teacher.

The folk music camp welcomes participants of all ages, from babies to oldies and from beginners to accomplished musicians. The teaching will be adapted for each teaching group, according to its level. Parents are welcome to follow their children's lessons, helping them to assist the child while rehearsing at home.
