Jubilee seminar for the opening of the Runosong Academy

The Juminkeko Foundation is founding a folk music research center called the Runosong Academy (Runolaulu-Akatemia).  The Runosong Academy will focus on the research of runosong (runolaulu) and other Baltic-Finnish folk music traditions.The research center will be in close cooperation with universities and research institutes both in Finland and internationally.  The founding of the Runosong Academy is a direct continuation of the work and collection-oriented research which the Juminkeko Foundation has exercised in Kainuu and Viena Karelia for more than two decades.

The founding festivities will include an international jubilee seminar on the following topics:

• Song and singing as cultural communication
• Ontrei Malinen’s Kantele
