Registration for the summer’s folk music courses has started
Registration for the summer’s folk music courses has started!
Registration for folk music courses organised in connection with the Sommelo Festival is now available on line. The course palette for summer 2011 includes courses familiar from previous years, as well as new ones, providing plenty of choice for children and grown-ups.
The themes of the Sommelo Festival are also represented in the variety of courses and workshops. Thus, the course selection features practical course for playing shepherds’ instruments and a course on Sami yoik singing. The friends of the kantele are offered a treat with two kantele playing courses. The International Kantele Course will once again call together kantele players from all over the world, and one may get acquainted with the ancient Finnish hollow kantele both on a building and a playing course.
The variety of summer courses available includes training for professionals, as the folk music course for children’s educational specialists will once again be organised under the tuition of Eeva-Leena Pokela. Furthermore, a pedagogical course on runosong will be held for folk music teachers.
The Folk Dance Course and the Runosong Workshop continue as our “old friends” among the Sommelo courses. The team of top teachers includes, among others, Eva Alkula, Mauno Järvelä, Arja Kastinen, Antti Savilampi and Vilma Timonen.
The main teaching language for the courses will be Finnish. Tuition in English will be available for the International Kantele Course, the Ancient Finnish Hollow Kantele Building and Playing Course and at the Runosong Workshop. Tuition in Russian will also be available for the International Kantele Course.
Registration is available until the 31st May 2011.
